So, you want to learn to play the bagpipes...
The first thing you should know is that you don't start out on pipes. You
start on a practice chanter. It's a recorder like instrument that has
the same fingering as the pipes, but no bag or drones. The best thing
about it is that it costs less than $100, where a good set of pipes can be
a thousand or two.
Secondly, very, very few people who try to teach themselves actually make
it to the pipes. And those that do are 99.9% sure to sound really bad. Yes,
that is taking into account all of the resources we have with the internet.
You simply can't hear yourself and the mistakes you make, so the mistakes
become permanent. When you move to the pipes, the mistakes go with you.
I'm speaking from experience! It took me a long time to break bad habits.
This means you should find an instructor. That's where I come in.
